Do you speak too fast? When I first started performing as a Los Angeles magician, one recurring suggestion I’d get from my peers who were trying to help, was to slow down. They said I talked too fast.
Even today when I give a speaking presentation or perform magic, I have a tendency to speak very fast. There are a several reasons for it. If I’m even a little nervous, I speak fast, and it’s difficult to control. Sometimes I know my material so well, that the words just flow out of my mouth without even thinking about it. Other times I’m just so passionate and excited about the ideas that I have to share, that passion and excitement reveals itself in my quickly paced speaking.
So, is this a bad thing? Well, it can be. If you speak so fast that you don’t enunciate your words, people won’t understand what you’re saying. Other times the… Continue reading

I believe the most effective way to bring attention to your business, products, services, mission, or cause is to speak in front of groups of people. Whether you’re a CEO, small business owner, professional speaker, coach, consultant, entertainer, or sales manager, we all have to get in front of groups to give a presentation. People like to follow leaders, and people who speak confidently in public are viewed as leaders.
In this video I share a key idea that can pave the way to speaking with confidence.
Please leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts. If you can also share this video, I’d greatly appreciate it!
To your success!
A while back I got a call from a friend who wanted me to do a magic show at her child’s birthday party. At the time, I didn’t do kids parties. I had stopped doing them for about 5 or 6 years. About a year ago I started booking them again, but that’s another story.
I recommended someone who I thought would do a great job, and who could actually use the work. Since the party was for a friend of mine, I was present when the performer arrived. I was surprised to see her with a very serious look on her face. As she put her props together getting ready for the show, she was very focused. When someone would interrupt her by asking if she was the magician for the party, she’d say yes, and then continue with what she was doing. She almost looked annoyed that someone was interrupting her while she was setting up.
When it… Continue reading

In this video I share with you the easiest and fastest way to succeed in any business. Follow in the footsteps of the people that have gone before you. These people have already figured things out. They know what can go wrong and how to do things right. They know what works. If you were to tap into their system, you’d receive similar results.
I’m constantly investing in my own education, by buying books, CDs, courses, attending seminars and asking for advice from people that have already succeeded at what I want to do. If you’re seeking success, seek out others who have already done what you’re trying to do, and see if they have a product that teaches their system.
If you’re a magician, and you want to do school assembly shows, there are magicians out there who have their systems for sale. All you have to do is follow the system and you’ll get similar results. If you’re… Continue reading
Today I’m going to share with you the number one secret for commanding higher fees for your products and services, but before I do that I will have to assume three things. First, I’m going to assume you have a product or service that delivers value for your customers. I’m also going to assume that you have all your marketing materials and systems in place, and the third thing I’m going to assume is that you’ve positioned yourself as the number one solution for the problems and concerns that are facing your customers. That is a lot to assume, but let’s ay you have all three things in place.
Here is the number one secret. Ask for what you want. Successful people are askers. Because they ask for more, they receive more. Throughout my entire career I’ve always asked people who are more successful than myself for help with my business. I ask for more, so I receive more. If… Continue reading
One essential tool you’ll need for booking speaking engagements is a video demo. Clients, event planners, and speakers bureaus all want to see you in action. They want to see you on stage sharing your message. They want to get a sense of your personality, and they want to see how the audience reacts to your presentation, but how do you book a gig so you can record your presentation, when nobody will book you without a video demo? It’s a Catch 22, so I’ll share with you a couple of ideas that will enable to you to go out and record your first video demo.
The first thing you can do is contact all your local Rotary clubs. These are unpaid engagements, but you will be allowed to speak for 20 to 30 minutes in front of a very appreciative audience. You can either hire a videographer or bring a friend along to video record your presentation. Just… Continue reading
Every business is designed to do one thing; solve the problems of other people. If you aren’t solving problems for others, you won’t be in business for very long. For example, if I have a leaking faucet, I’ll call a plumber who can fix it. Problem solved. If I need to sell my home, I’ll hire a realtor who can list my home, find a buyer, walk me through all the paperwork, and make sure everything gets filed correctly. Problem solved. If I’m having a party and I want to make sure my guests don’t get bored, I’ll hire entertainment such as a magician, comedian, band, or caricature artist. My guests are entertained, and my problem is solved. If you think your business is different, and you’re not there to solve a problem, you’re either fooling yourself, or you don’t have a viable business. The key to maximizing your marketing is to clearly identify the problem, and then convey your… Continue reading
